Libellule Theatre are in South Africa!

Here we are in the beautiful Cape Town! It may be winter here but the sun is shining and we could not wish for a warmer welcome. Myself and Simone are over the moon to have been sponsored by the British Council and UNIMA to take part in the Out the Box Festival happening  here next week. We will be performing five shows of  ’Just a Bit of Paper’ and leading several workshops on puppetry and object manipulation which we are very excited about. This is a fantastic way to reach an international audience and see how another continent responds to our work!

However our work has already begun! We are spending the first week of our trip collaborating with a fantastic charity based here in Cape Town called Greenpop They have a passion for educating young people about the importance of trees and greenery in the environment and raising a generation who care for, support and protect South Africa’s beautiful landscape. Luckily for us, they are also passionate about using the arts to educate young people and so with the Greenpop team and a fantastic group of students from Prince Georges School in Lavender Hill we are spending five days creating a piece of original devised theatre which will be performed as part of the opening ceremony of the Out the Box festival this weekend!

The aim of the project is to introduce young people to new skills, new forms of theatre and to use drama to explore their understanding of, and relationship with their environment.

It’s new, it’s exciting, it’s challenging and we aim to keep you up to date with all that is happening over the next couple of weeks!
